The Pirate Prince by Gaelen Foley

On a calm moonlit night, as the scent of jasmine and pine embraced the island of Ascension, the pirate prince Lazar di Fiori returns with lethal grace to avenge what was stolen from him: his kingdom, his birthright, his soul. . . .

Allegra Monteverdi, the daughter of Lazar's sworn enemy, proves an uncommonly powerful adversary. She throws herself on his mercy, her courage and beauty touching his cold, unforgiving heart. He agrees to spare the lives of her family--but only if Allegra sails away with him as his captive. For his quest for vengeance still burns fiercely, and he will settle for nothing less than Allegra's body and soul.

Alone at sea with this dark, intriguing man, moving between seduction and fear, Allegra gazes into eyes as deep and mysterious as the night and sees who this pirate really is. Lazar--the prince of her childhood dreams. Though he was rumored to be murdered years ago, she always believed someday he would return. But it will take more than her love for this pirate prince to bring peace to her beloved home. For Lazar must face the demons of his shattered past--if he is to forge the destiny that is theirs to claim. . . .

There are author's who write romance novels and gives you the feeling of being in the book yourself... well Gaelen Foley is one of those authors and made me feel like I was part of the novel. Reading The Pirate Prince made me wish that Ascencion (a make believe island near Italy) really does exist and that Lazar and Allegra really are the rulers of the kingdom.

This is a fabulous read for fans of romance or fans of gothic historical fiction and it is a tribute to the folks at Sourcebooks for choosing such a timeless classic to reprint today. (Michele Jacobson A Reader's Respite)

This is excellent and intense storytelling, many thanks to Sourcebooks for re-releasing the novels of this classic author. (Carey Anderson The Tome Traveller's Weblog 20090529)

Be careful when you set out to read this novel. Daphne du Maurier will capture your imagination with more stealth, speed, and skill than any of her pirates ever could. (Jennifer Conner The Literate Housewife 20090526)

The Pirate Lord (Lord Trilogy, Book 1) by Sabrina Jeffries

First in a series of three books of ongoing pirate romance and mysterious adventure on the sea!

A Splendid Opportunity

A shipload of women—theirs for the taking! Pirate captain Gideon Horn couldn't be more delighted. His men are tired of wandering the high seas and want to settle down with wives on the uncharted island paradise they've discovered. And the women are bound to be grateful to be rescued from the life of drudgery awaiting them in New South Wales . . .

Lord, he's so clever!

A Splendid Passion

Married? To pirates? Sara Willis couldn't be more appalled. First she demands proper courting—at least a month. The darkly handsome pirate lord gives them two weeks. Then Sara insists the men vacate their huts for the women—Gideon demands her kisses in return. As the demands heat up, so do their passions—and soon Sara can't remember just why she's fighting the devilishly seductive captain so hard. . .

The sensual portions of this book are a solid and intriguing, however the book does not rely heavily on these sensual scenes. The story is so good that these scenes just add spice to an already great book.

Steel by Carrie Vaughn

Time travel, swordplay, and romance combine in an original high-seas adventure from New York Times bestseller Carrie Vaughn.

It was a slender length of rusted steel, tapered to a point at one end and jagged at the other, as if it had broken. A thousand people would step over it and think it trash, but not her.
This was the tip of a rapier.

Sixteen-year-old Jill has fought in dozens of fencing tournaments, but she has never held a sharpened blade. When she finds a corroded sword piece on a Caribbean beach, she is instantly intrigued and pockets it as her own personal treasure.

The broken tip holds secrets, though, and it transports Jill through time to the deck of a pirate ship. Stranded in the past and surrounded by strangers, she is forced to sign on as crew. But a pirate's life is bloody and brief, and as Jill learns about the dark magic that brought her there, she forms a desperate scheme to get home—one that risks everything in a duel to the death with a villainous pirate captain.

When story begins, Jill is a moody girl, constantly feeling sorry for herself. But when she's forced into a hard life on a pirate ship, Jill's outlook changes dramatically. She's a hard worker and compassionate. Vaughn's pirates are not overly dramatized nor made into Hollywood-like heroes. Though at times Jill's captain makes heroic choices. The pirates are still thieves and murderers, yet governed by a democracy of sorts, live by a code, and cherish their freedom.

Bound By The Heart by Marsha Canham

Available on Amazon
In this swashbuckling adventure Captain Morgan Wade, a notorious privateer and blockade-runner, rescues, then kidnaps the daughter of the British governor of Barbados after she and her brother are shipwrecked.

Summer Cambridge is betrothed to Wade's arch-enemy, Commodore Bennett Winfield, who will go to any lengths, even start a war between two countries to get her back.

The intrigue is well spun and the characters well done. Action from page one, a strong slightly arrogant hero, a tough strong willed women and great secondary characters that bring in humor. Great read.
